Witness the transformation of a 460-year-old masterpiece! As the sun sets, Yu Garden (Yuyuan) and the surrounding Yuyuan Bazaar in the heart of Old Shanghai light up, turning the area into a glowing wonderland that feels like a scene from an ancient Chinese drama.
In this immersive night walk, we experience the vibrant energy of the Huangpu District after dark. We stroll across the iconic Nine-zigzag Bridge (Jiuqu Bridge), which is illuminated with brilliant colors to highlight its unique design meant to keep away bad spirits. The bridge leads us to the historic Huxinting Teahouse, standing elegantly on stilts in the center of the lake, its intricate red and white architecture perfectly reflected in the water.
We then navigate the maze-like streets of the Yuyuan Bazaar, where Ming and Qing dynasty-style buildings are outlined in golden LED lights. This is the ultimate destination for food lovers—we explore stalls selling famous Nanxiang soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) and various traditional street snacks. Whether you are hunting for souvenirs or simply soaking in the "cyberpunk" blend of history and neon, Yu Garden at night is an unmissable Shanghai experience.
