Group Anthracnose & Hercules: 3D Chloroplast and Mitochondria Models and Their Interactions

Presented on: 14 Jan 2026

Hi everyone!

Let’s learn a bit about the fascinating connection between the chloroplast and the mitochondrion.

Chloroplasts and mitochondria are deeply connected through a continuous cycle of energy and matter within the cell. Chloroplasts capture sunlight to build energy-rich sugars and release oxygen. Mitochondria then consume that very oxygen to break down the sugars, releasing the stored energy in a form the cell can use (ATP) and producing carbon dioxide and water as byproducts. This elegant partnership means the output of one organelle is the essential input for the other. Their connection is also historical, explained by the endosymbiotic theory. Both organelles are descended from free-living bacteria that were engulfed by a larger host cell billions of years ago. This shared origin explains why they still have their own DNA, double membranes, and replicate independently within our cell. They were once separate organisms that became permanent, cooperative residents.

Hai semua!
