Bengaluru Fort, though largely diminished from its original size, remains a significant historical landmark in the heart of Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka, India. This site offers a glimpse into the city's past, reflecting the influence of various rulers and the changing fortunes of the region.
Historical Significance:
The fort's origins can be traced back to the 16th century, though its structure has been modified and rebuilt over time. It played a role in the conflicts between the Kingdom of Mysore and the British East India Company. It was notably associated with Hyder Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan, the rulers of Mysore. The fort's history is intertwined with the development of Bangalore as a major city.
Surviving Structures:
While much of the original fort has been lost to time and urban expansion, some sections of the fort walls and gateways still stand. These surviving elements offer a glimpse into the fort's original design and scale.
Museum:
The history and collection of artifacts can be found in the museum on the ground floor
