🌱 Overview
This experiment studies how different nutrient solutions affect the growth of duckweed (Lemna sp.), a fast-growing aquatic
plant.
You will measure plant growth using:
Leaf Area
Biomass (fresh & dry weight)
Growth analysis indices (LAI, CGR, NAR, AGR, RGR)
🎯 Objective
Compare duckweed growth under different nutrient solutions
🧪 Treatments
Each group is assigned ONE treatment (1% solution):T1 – Blood MealT2 – Feather MealT3 – UreaT4 – CIRPT5 – White SugarT6 – Melaka Palm Sugar
📦 Basic Setup
- 6 cups per group- 3 fronds per cup- 150 mL nutrient solution- Place in bright area (NO direct midday sun)

🏷️ Labelling System
Day 5 (T1):R1-T1, R2-T1, R3-T1Day 10 (T2):R1-T2, R2-T2, R3-T2
🔁 Daily Care (Day 1–10)
Keep in bright light- Top up nutrient solution every 2–3 days- Do NOT change treatment solution
📊 Data Collection (Day 1, 5, 10)
1. Light Measurement
Use GPS Status App → record in Lux
2. Leaf Area Imaging
Use Easy Leaf Area App- Place 2 cm × 2 cm red scale- Take aerial photo
3. File Naming:
Treatment-Day-ReplicationExample: Urea-R1-T1
Record the leaf area value in the provided excel link: Communal excel data spreadsheet.xlsx. Create your own group sheet in the excel.
Use the phone camera, take the one aerial image and save your image name using the format: Treatment-Day-Replication (e.g., BloodMeal-R1-T1).
Upload: Upload the daily images to the dedicated group folder: STUDENT SPACE AGR33001 SEM2 MAC-JULY 26
⚗️ Harvest (IMPORTANT)
Day 5:
Harvest R1–R3Measure:- Leaf Area- Fresh Weight- Dry Weight (after oven)
Day 10:
Repeat for remaining samples
📐 Key Calculations (SIMPLIFIED)
LAI
LAI = Leaf Area / Ground Area
CGR
CGR = (W2 - W1) / (t2 - t1) / GA
NAR
NAR = (W2 - W1) / (t2 - t1) × [ ln(LA2) - ln(LA1) ] / (LA2 - LA1)
AGR
AGR = (W2 - W1) / (t2 - t1)
RGR
RGR = [ ln(W2) - ln(W1) ] / (t2 - t1)
📢 Final Note
Each group only has ONE treatment.You MUST combine data with other groups to:- Compare all 6 treatments- Complete your analysis
