Modern technology allows us to analyze trees in remarkable detail, even from a distance. Using simple cameras and specialized software, we can accurately measure tree height and crown transparency, providing valuable data for forestry, ecology, and urban planning.
These measurements are valuable in forestry, ecology, and urban planning for tasks like forest management, habitat assessment, and tree health monitoring.
Tree height is determined by comparing the tree's pixel height in an image to a reference object of known height also in the image.
Crown transparency (how much light passes through the canopy) is analyzed using software like ForestCrowns, which processes images to calculate light penetration.
